The Grow Digital Voucher, explained: up to €5,000 for your website
If you run a small business in Ireland and you've been putting off a proper website because of the cost, there's a grant worth knowing about. The Grow Digital Voucher can cover half the bill — up to €5,000 — and most business owners either haven't heard of it or assume it's more hassle than it's worth. Here's the plain-English version.
What is the Grow Digital Voucher?
The Grow Digital Voucher is a government grant run through your local Local Enterprise Office (LEO). It replaced the old Trading Online Voucher, and it's designed to help small Irish businesses invest in going digital — a new website, an online store, digital marketing, or the systems behind them.
It pays 50% of your eligible costs, from a minimum of €500 up to a maximum of €5,000. So on a €3,000 website project, you could claim €1,500 back. On a bigger build, up to €5,000.

Who's eligible?
The scheme is aimed at genuinely small businesses. At the time of writing, to qualify your business generally needs to:
- Employ between 1 and 50 people
- Have been trading for at least six months
- Be registered and operating in the area of a Local Enterprise Office
- Meet the EU definition of a small enterprise (turnover or balance sheet under €10 million)
- Not be a current client of Enterprise Ireland or the IDA
- Be tax-compliant and able to supply financial statements
That covers the vast majority of cafés, trades, clinics, shops and service businesses around the country.
The step most people miss
Here's the part that trips people up: you can't just apply for the money and spend it. Before you can claim the Grow Digital Voucher, you first need to complete a Digital for Business project — a short, free consultancy your LEO runs to map out your digital plan. You'll need to have finished that within the previous two years to be eligible.
It sounds like a hoop to jump through, but it's genuinely useful: it means you go into the website project with a clear plan rather than winging it. And it's free.
How to apply, step by step
- Contact your Local Enterprise Office. Every county has one — find yours at localenterprise.ie.
- Complete the free Digital for Business consultation. This produces the project report you'll need.
- Apply for the Grow Digital Voucher through your LEO, attaching that report.
- Wait for approval before you spend. The grant is approved up front — don't pay for the work expecting to claim it back retroactively.
- Get the work done, then draw down the grant once it's complete and invoiced.
Where a website fits in
A new or rebuilt website is one of the most common uses of the voucher — it's a clear, one-off digital investment with an obvious return. If eligible, you're effectively getting a premium site for half the price.
